The Therapy Process

The Therapy Process: What to Expect

For many people, taking the first step into therapy can feel daunting—especially if you have never seen a practitioner before. Whether you are seeking support as an individual or navigating challenges as a couple, my goal is to provide a transparent, safe, and structured environment from the very first point of contact.

Here is a clear guide to how we will work together, from your initial consultation to our ongoing sessions.

The Step-by-Step Journey

  • Step 1: Your Free Initial Consultation - Optional (20 Minutes)

Before you commit to a full session, we can begin with a free 20-minute consultation, conducted either by telephone or online. This brief, informal conversation allows us to introduce ourselves, briefly outline what you are hoping to address, and see if I am the right practitioner for your needs.

  • Step 2: Your First Visit (The Assessment Session)

If we decide to move forward, our first official session is dedicated to discussing your current issues in more depth, exploring your history, and defining what you want to achieve. It is a collaborative space to see how I can help you, after which we will make a mutual decision about how we go forward with meeting your goals.

  • Step 3: Ongoing Sessions

Therapy is most effective when it is consistent. Ongoing sessions are typically scheduled on a weekly or fortnightly basis, depending on your needs and goals.

Practical Information and Fees

Fees & Session Guidelines

To keep the administrative side of therapy as simple as possible, please note the following practice terms:

  • Session Length: Every session lasts for a full 60 minutes (1 hour).

  • Individual Therapy Fee: £65 per hour.

  • Couples Therapy Fee: £85 per hour.

  • Payment Terms: Payment is required via bank transfer prior to the start of each session to secure your appointment time.

Confidentiality & Data Protection (GDPR)

Your privacy is paramount. Everything discussed within our therapeutic space is treated with strict professional confidence, adhering to the ethical frameworks of my governing body, BACP, and up-to-date GDPR data protection laws.

However, it is important to note that confidentiality works differently depending on how you attend therapy:

  • For Individuals:

Our sessions are strictly confidential between you and me. The only exceptions are legal mandates or standard safeguarding clauses (such as a serious risk of harm to yourself or others).

  • For Couples:

My policy for couples therapy is one of "No Secrets". This means that if one partner shares significant information with me outside of the shared room (via a separate email, text, or brief phone call), I cannot keep that information secret from the other partner. For couples therapy to remain effective and safe, the relationship itself is the client, and communication must remain transparent.
